The City of Somerton operates under a Mayor and Council form of government. The City Council appoints the city manager to serve as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

The city manager is responsible for developing the annual budget, advising the council on policy issues, and carrying our council’s policy direction through the day-to-day management and operations of all City departments, which include:

Police
Fire
Public Works
Community Development
Economic Development
Parks and Recreation
Human Resources
Information Technology
Finance Department

In addition to overseeing citywide operations, the City Manager is also the City of Somerton representative. The role and responsibilities of the city manager are defined in the city ordinance and state law.
